Very detailed step-by-step Installation instructions are found at the Area 451 Parts website. Installation requires very few tools and most people can perform the task themselves in 2 to 3 hours. We encourage you to review the instructions carefully and visualize yourself performing the steps.

This cruise control is designed and tested to work in all markets on the 2007 and newer gas powered smart cars only (including the MHD model). If your smart is diesel, we have determined that the wiring is not 100% compatible and for the electric version we have no idea at this time. In either of those cases, we'd love to do some testing so please contact us if there's interest. For older (pre-2007) smart car models, this unit will not work.

All units ship with firmware version 1.20. A newer version is available for free which adds new features - most significantly, pedal mapping (others have called it "Sprint Booster" or similar) which alters the way your gas pedal behaves. It can give you your car a much sportier feeling. We can't ship the kit with this firmware pre-installed, so to take advantage of it you will also need our programmer.
